Mount Catria Under The Snow, Italy
Mount Catria, or Monte Catria, is a prominent peak located in the Apennine mountain range in central Italy. It stands at an elevation of approximately 1,700 meters and is situated within the Marche region, near the border with Umbria. The mountain is part of the larger Acuto and Catria mountain group, which is known for its stunning natural beauty and diverse ecosystems.
Mount Catria is a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts, offering a range of activities such as hiking, mountain biking, and rock climbing. The trails around the mountain provide breathtaking views of the surrounding landscapes, including rolling hills, valleys, and other peaks. In particular, the panoramic vistas from the summit are a highlight for many visitors.
The area is rich in biodiversity, hosting a variety of flora and fauna, including several endemic species. The mountain is also home to several hermitages and monasteries, reflecting a long history of religious significance. The most notable of these is the Sanctuary of Santa Maria di Catria, which is situated on the mountain and attracts pilgrims and tourists alike.
In addition to its natural and spiritual allure, Mount Catria is culturally significant, steeped in local legends and history. The mountain and its surroundings have inspired art, literature, and folklore, making it an integral part of the region's identity.
This work has been done in the four winter season from 2014 to 2017. With this series of images I wanted to tell the harsh winters that often characterize this area. Mount Catria is located in the Marche region not far from Fonte Avellana monastery, in Pesaro Urbino province, Italy. The snowfalls here are often abundant, sometimes you have to walk in a snowstorm, sometimes under the sun but despite everything with the arrival of spring the cycle of life resumes its course.
