Lakagígar (Laki craters in English) is almost 26 km long fissure with about 130 craters. After more than 2 years living in Iceland I managed to go there. To reach the place I travelled 250 km on normal road from Reykjavík and other 50-60 km on dirt road, part of which in very bad condition, and crossed several rivers. Once I reached the car park I climbed a mountain to almost reach the summit and position myself in the point perfectly in line with the craters. After about four hours of waiting the sun, finally low on the horizon, came out through the clouds to illuminate at the right time, with its warm and golden light, craters and clouds. Perfect light, perfect clouds, wonderful place. From here you can see the Mýrdalsjökull glacier in front of you, the Langisjór lake on the right side and behind you the Vatnajökull glacier. One of the most beautiful places I've ever seen here in Iceland. And I'll be back again!
