Iceland Fine Art Photography: A Journey Through the Four Elements

When I moved to Iceland on March 2018, one of my first thoughts (and a dream I had in my drawer) was to make a book about the four elements in nature (earth, water, fire and air) which are certainly not lacking in Iceland. It took a long time because at that time I had neither photographic material nor photographic skills to be able to make a photography book. But the thought was always there. Not to mention the fact that some people asked me why I didn't do it. Finally, after years spent traveling the island far and wide and taking many photographs, the dream came true! And I'm already thinking on my second book!

Vestrahorn is a stunning mountain located on the eastern coast of Iceland, near the village of Höfn in the Vatnajökull National Park. Goðafoss, often referred to as the "Waterfall of the Gods," is one of the most spectacular and iconic waterfalls in Iceland, located in the North of the country near the town of Akureyri. The waterfall is approximately 12 meters high and around 30 meters wide, creating a stunning cascade of water that flows from the Skjálfandafljót river.
The name Goðafoss has its roots in Icelandic history and mythology. According to legend, the waterfall was named after the year 1000 AD when Iceland converted to Christianity. The lawspeaker Þorgeirr Ljósvetningagoði is said to have thrown his pagan idols into the waterfall as a symbol of the nation's acceptance of the new faith, hence the name "Waterfall of the Gods."
Goðafoss is not only significant for its historical and cultural importance but also for its breathtaking beauty. The waterfall is characterized by its crescent shape and the surrounding landscape, which features lush greenery, rugged cliffs, and volcanic formations.
In winter the scenery changes completely thanks to the abundant snowfalls that paint the landscape white in contrast with the blue water of the river.

Brúarfoss is best visited during the summer months when the weather is mild and the water flow is strong, but it also has a unique charm in winter when snow and ice add to its enchanting appearance. Due to its popularity, it’s advisable to visit early in the day or during less crowded times to fully appreciate the tranquility of this natural wonder.
