Lakagígar is a volcanic fissure located in the Vatnajökull National Park in Iceland. It is one of the most significant geological features in the country, known for its stunning landscapes and historical volcanic activity. The fissure, which stretches approximately 25 kilometers, was formed during a series of eruptions that occurred between 1783 and 1784, known as the Laki eruption. This event was one of the largest volcanic eruptions in recorded history and had a profound impact on Iceland's climate and environment, as well as on global weather patterns.
Looking to the right of the craters you can glimpse Langisjór, a lake about 25 kilometers long, illuminated by the golden rays of the setting sun.
